Try convert with your own imageKeeps the format — JPG stays JPG

Same format, same photo. Drag to spot the difference — most people can't.
Try compress with your own imageConvert changes the file type, usually shrinking it a lot at the same time. Compress keeps the file type you already have and trims the size.
You drop a file
It's read straight from your disk into this tab. No upload starts, because there's nowhere to upload to.
Your device does the work
Your browser decodes and rewrites the image across 11 supported formats, including AVIF.
You download the result
The file comes from memory on your own machine, then disappears the moment you press Clear.
No account, no cookie banner, no daily limit — there is no server keeping score.
Built for speed. Built for privacy.
Professional-grade control, without a single byte leaving your machine.
Instant
No upload, no download, no waiting. Results appear the second your device finishes.
Private by design
Your files are processed on your machine and sent nowhere. We couldn't see them if we wanted to.

Your files never leave your device
This is the whole point of Under1MB — not a footnote in a policy page.
No uploads, ever
Everything runs on your browser's built-in image tools. Files are never sent.
Nothing to leak
There's no server holding your files, because none are ever sent. Nothing to store, nothing to breach.
Nothing to see
Under1MB has no way to know what you convert. By design, not by promise.
Most converters upload your image, process it on their servers, and promise to delete it. We just never receive it. That's a stronger position than any deletion policy — because there's nothing to delete.
Don't take our word for it
Privacy claims are cheap. This one takes 20 seconds to check.
- 1Press F12 (or ⌘ + ⌥ + I on a Mac) to open your browser's developer tools.
- 2Open the Network tab and clear the list.
- 3Drop an image into the tool and hit Convert.
- 4Watch the list stay empty. No upload. No request. No copy of your file, anywhere.
You'll see one small analytics ping on page load — never during processing, never with your file.
Runs on standard browser image APIs — nothing to install, no extension, no desktop app. Full support in Chrome, Safari (incl. iOS), Firefox, and Edge.
Free. Unlimited. No account.

Straight answers
What's the difference between Convert and Compress?+
Convert changes the file format (PNG to WEBP, HEIC to JPG). Compress keeps the same format and makes the file smaller. Convert also compresses automatically at a smart default.
Does Convert compress my image too?+
Yes. Every conversion is optimized at a sensible default quality, not just re-saved at full weight. Use Compress when you want to control the trade-off yourself.
Do my files get uploaded — ever?+
No. Everything happens in your browser. You can prove it: open your Network tab, convert a file, and watch nothing get sent.
Does Under1MB only work on files under 1 MB?+
No. The name is the job most people come here for — getting an image under a size limit. Files of any size go in, and you can target any output size.
Which formats are supported?+
11 today, across web, photo, and design files. TIFF, PSD and RAW are on the roadmap.
PNG, JPEG, WEBP, AVIF — which should I use?+
PNG for transparency and sharp graphics. JPEG for photos where small size matters. WEBP for the best all-round balance on the web. AVIF for the smallest files, if your users' browsers support it.
Is there a file-size or batch limit?+
Only your browser's memory. Batch as many as it can hold, and download them as a ZIP.
Is it really free, no account?+
Yes. Free forever, no signup, no card.
Your images. Your device. Your privacy.
