Image tools that never see your images
Under1MB converts, compresses and resizes images entirely inside your browser. No upload, no account, no server that could leak a file it never received.
Why this exists
Almost every image converter on the web works the same way: you hand over your file, a server does the work, and a policy page promises the copy gets deleted. That is a lot of trust for a job your own device can finish in a second.
It matters more than it sounds. The files people most often need to shrink are the private ones — a passport photo for an exam form, a scanned signature, a medical report, a screenshot of a bank statement. Those are exactly the files that should not be sitting in a stranger's upload folder.
Under1MB does it the other way round. Your browser already contains a capable image engine, so we use it. Files are decoded, re-encoded and resized locally, and the result is handed straight back to you. Nothing is uploaded, so nothing can be stored, leaked or scanned.
The name comes from the job people search for most: getting a photo under a size limit. It is not a cap — files of any size go in, and you choose any target you like.

What we believe
Six rules that decide what gets built and what gets refused.
Local by default
If your device can do the work, it should. Every tool here runs on your own machine, and the product is designed so that adding an upload would be a step backwards.
Honest about limits
We support 11 formats and say plainly what we cannot do yet. No fake progress bars, no pretending a lossless PNG can be crushed to 20 KB without resizing.
Free where it counts
Privacy is not a premium feature. The free tier is the whole product for individuals, and it stays that way.
No dark patterns
No account wall, no cookie banner, no watermark, no daily quota, no email capture before a download.
Nothing collected we do not need
Anonymous, cookie-free page counts only. No file names, no sizes, no dimensions, nothing derived from your images.
Fast on purpose
No queue, no round trip. The only limit on speed is how quickly your own device can re-encode the file.

No magic, and nothing you cannot verify in your own browser.
Read locally
The file is read from your disk into this tab. No upload begins, because there is nowhere to upload to.
Re-encode on your device
Your browser decodes and rewrites the image across 11 supported formats, including AVIF.
Hand it back
The download comes from memory on your own machine, and disappears when you press Clear.

Who is behind Under1MB?+
A small independent team that got tired of uploading private photos to anonymous converters. Every question, bug report and partnership request goes to one inbox, and a person reads it.
How does Under1MB make money if it is free?+
It costs almost nothing to run, because there are no servers processing images. A paid tier for teams and automation is planned later. Privacy will never be the thing we charge for.
How can you be sure my files are not uploaded?+
You do not have to take our word for it. Open your browser's network panel, convert a file, and watch that no request carries it. There is no upload endpoint in the product.
What happens to the metadata in my photos?+
EXIF and GPS data are dropped when the image is re-encoded, so location and camera details do not travel with the file you share.
Which formats do you support today?+
11 formats across web, photo and design files, including PNG, JPG, WEBP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, ICO, SVG, HEIC and HEIF. TIFF, PSD and RAW are on the roadmap.
How do I report a bug or request a format?+
