Why convert PNG to ICO?

A favicon is still an ICO in most CMS and framework setups, and an ICO is really a small container wrapping a PNG. Under1MB rescales your PNG to an icon size and wraps it, so you get a file a browser will accept in a tab strip. Start from a square PNG with transparency for the cleanest result.

ICO export is capped at 256px, ideal for favicons.

Questions

What size should the source be?+

A square PNG of at least 256 × 256 gives the sharpest icon.

Is transparency kept?+

Yes — the PNG inside the ICO keeps its alpha channel.

Can I convert several PNG files at once?+

Yes. Drop a whole batch, convert them together and download the results as a single ZIP.

Is there a file size or daily limit?+

No limits and no account. The only real ceiling is your device's memory, since everything runs locally.

What happens to EXIF and GPS data?+

It's removed. Writing a fresh ICO drops camera, date and location metadata, which is usually what you want before sharing.

Does this cost anything?+

No. There is no server bill to pass on, so converting PNG to ICO is free and always will be.
